Under the Licensing Act 2003, anyone authorising the retail sale of alcohol must hold a personal licence.  To qualify for a personal licence, an applicant must hold a licensing qualification which is Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) accredited, and Government approved.

The Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing is a new half-day course which ends with a short multiple-choice examination.  It is aimed at all staff involved in the retail sale of alcohol and could be helpful in assisting companies to establish a due diligence defence in relevant circumstances.

The BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (NCPLH) is both QCA accredited and Government approved, and has been specifically designed to meet the statutory requirements of the Licensing Act 2003.  It is a one-day course ending with a 40 question multiple-choice examination.

The National Certificate for Designated Premises Supervisors course provides more detailed training for those Personal Licence Holders who are, or are to become, Designated Premises Supervisors.  It is a one-day course with a multiple-choice examination.

Trade Law Matters is an approved centre for the administration of these highly-regarded BIIAB qualifications.
